Financial planning is the process of mapping your present financial situation against your goals. It involves benchmarking your current net worth and cash flow, and developing realistic financial goals and assumptions through open and honest communication. Once we analyze your goals and the probability of success we begin to formulate a strategy. Finally, it is up to you to implement your plan. It is only through this process that you can confidently allocate your resources where they are needed across your financial life to increase the probability of goal achievement.
Comprehensive financial planning involves several key areas of your financial life. A well conceived plan will recognize the trades offs when addressing these different areas, allowing you to address your goals in order of importance.
A financial plan needs to be monitored as both external forces (markets, economy, tax laws) and personal preferences will change over time. Annual reviews ensure that your plan remains up to date, and adjustments can be made to keep you on track.
When providing financial planning services, I follow the process and guidelines as outlined by the CFP Board and their Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility.
